A day around Kekova

Let’s discover the beauty of Kekova together.

Ask a question — the answer is probably already written.

A family boat, not an agency

İbrahim has worked this water for thirty years. It was his father’s trade before it was his, and he runs Queen C with his wife.

Thirty years out of Çayağzı is long enough to know which cove is clean this week, where the wind will have got to by three in the afternoon, and which anchorage is empty while everyone else is somewhere else. That is what decides where the boat stops on the day, rather than a list printed in advance. His wife works alongside him aboard, and in the summer season their son and daughter join them. The galley is theirs and the bar is theirs: there is no outside crew, and no agency between you and the boat.

Our tours

One boat, three ways to spend a day on it. Queen C leaves Çayağzı harbour in Demre every morning at 10:30 and is back alongside by half past five.

The shared day tour is priced per person and lunch is included — chicken as standard, fish for a little more. Children under 5 travel free and 5- to 7-year-olds pay half. Drinks are not included; there is a bar on board. The two private charters take the whole boat and are quoted rather than listed, because the figure depends on the date, the group and what you want aboard. Message us with your date and how many you are and you will get a straight answer.

Kekova weather and the best time to visit The short answer: June and September are the best all-round months, July and August are the hottest and busiest, and October is the one most people underestimate. Here is why.
The day, stop by stop

5 stops, in the order we take them

Kekova is small enough that every boat visits the same places. This is the order Queen C takes them in, with the times off her own programme.

Start

Çayağzı Yat Limanı 10:30

We cast off from Çayağzı yacht harbour in Demre at half past ten, and turn east for Kekova.

Çayağzı Yat Limanı 17:30

Back alongside at Çayağzı at 17:30, at the same quay the day started from.

Times are a guide. Which coves the swimming stops are made in changes with how clean and how busy they are, and with the sea — the captain decides on the day.

Where to board

Two harbours. Two very different days.

Kekova is reached from two harbours, and both visit the same bays. The difference is distance — and distance is time spent travelling instead of swimming.

Çayağzı, Demre Our harbour Kaş
Sea distance to the Sunken City 9.5 km 5.1 nautical miles 23 km 12.5 nautical miles
Under way, there and back 1.5 hours 5 hours
Until the first swim stop 20 minutes 2.5 hours

Staying in Kaş? Çayağzı is 48 km away by road, about 45 minutes. Leave at 09:45 and you are aboard at 10:30 — in the water twenty minutes later.

Sea distances measured from each harbour, timed at the speed a loaded day boat holds door to door.

Queen C

Two decks, a saloon and a bar

Queen C is a wooden gulet working out of Çayağzı in Demre, run by the family that owns her.

The top deck is laid out with sunbeds under an awning, and the foredeck has a wide cushioned platform with a table in the middle of it — the two places people end up spending the day. Between them is the covered saloon: benches down both sides, wooden tables, and enough shade to sit out the middle of the afternoon. The Queen Bar runs across the after end of it, and lunch is served along the same counter. Below deck are the galley the food is cooked in, a toilet, a cabin and a washbasin. Life jackets are aboard, and there are floats and rings for children.

Lunch is not an afterthought

Lunch is cooked on board, and the boat stops for it

Lunch is cooked in the galley and served at anchor, laid out along the bar: chicken as standard, or fish for a little more. Fruit comes round in the afternoon.

It is a set menu and it comes out as a spread rather than a plate: a green salad, mücver (courgette fritters), roasted vegetables under yoghurt, spaghetti in sauce, and chicken or fish as the main. On the fish menu the fish are fried whole and served with lemon. The Queen Bar is open all day for beer, spirits, soft drinks and something to pick at, and the bar takes cards. The tour itself is paid in cash on board.

What you will see

The Kekova archipelago

Every stop on our route, and why it is worth the time we give it. Weather →

Batık Şehir (Sunken City)

The Lycian town of Simena, sunk by earthquakes in the 2nd century. Staircases, walls and storerooms lie just under the surface for 1.5 km.

Kaleköy (Simena)

A village with no road in. A Lycian sarcophagus stands in the shallows, a crusader castle sits above the roofs, and the ice cream is homemade.

Tersane Koyu

The old shipyard bay. Underwater stonework from the same era as the Sunken City, and here you are allowed to swim over it.

Akvaryum Koyu

The clearest water in Kekova, and quiet late in the day once the day boats have started back.

Gökkaya Koyu

Wide, sheltered and green-blue, reached through a strait watched over by the wild goats of Aşırlı Island.

Korsan Mağarası

A sea cave off Aşırlı island, and one of the last places Mediterranean monk seals still pup. Chained shut to boats since 2025 — we hold off the mouth and show it from the water.

Çamlık Koyu

Pines running down to the water, and the last swim of the day. Tea, coffee or fruit on deck afterwards, while nobody is in a hurry.

Çayağzı

Our home harbour, where a freshwater spring runs into the sea and loggerhead turtles come in to feed.

Why book with us

One family running the boat, thirty years of knowing this coast, and coves chosen on the day rather than off a list.

Thirty years on this water

İbrahim has worked out of Çayağzı for thirty years, and the boat was his father’s trade before it was his.

A family aboard, not a crew

His wife works beside him all season, and in the summer their son and daughter join them.

The coves are chosen on the day

Where the four swims are made depends on how clean and how busy the bays are, and on what the sea is doing.

Book direct, no agency

What they say on the way back

  • Teoman ALTAY ★★★★★
An excellent day out, and I would recommend it without hesitation (10/10). We joined the day tour as a group on 22 August 2026 and everything was wonderful. Value for money is first rate. It is a lovely family business: the captain, his wife and their delightful daughters are courteous, thoughtful and immaculate. The boat was spotless. The food was delicious, filling and clean. What the captain told us about the history of the bays we passed added a great deal to the day. The departure and return times were exact. We had a faultless day with nothing missing.

  • Başar Karaca ★★★★★
The day trip we joined on Saturday was a pleasure from start to finish. Being a family business, the drinks and the food menus have clearly been put together with care. Hygiene is taken seriously, and the prices are reasonable — genuinely not inflated, which matters. Our thanks to Captain İbrahim and his family for the way they look after people. Setting the route according to how quiet the bays are that day is an important detail. Thanks to them we saw the place at its best, away from the crowds.

Frequently asked questions

Everything guests usually ask before booking. If yours is not here, send it to us on WhatsApp.

See all questions

Where do the boat tours leave from?
Every tour leaves from and returns to Çayağzı yacht harbour in Demre, about ten minutes by car from the town centre. You can drive, take a minibus or come by taxi.
Is there parking at the harbour?
Yes, and there is plenty of it. The car park at Çayağzı harbour is run by the municipality: 200 TL for a car, 400 TL for a minibus and 500 TL for a coach (2026 season). You can drive right down to the boat first to unload your things, then take the car back to the car park.
What time should I be at the harbour?
The boat sails at 10:30 and there is no separate boarding time — come a little before it, allow a few minutes for the municipal payment booth at the harbour entrance, which sometimes queues, and you will be aboard in good time. We are back alongside at 17:30.
What is included in the price?
Lunch cooked on board and served at anchor — the chicken menu as standard, or fish for ₺200 more a head — plus the fruit handed round in the afternoon, all four swimming stops and the pass along the Sunken City. Drinks are not included: there is a bar on board and you buy what you want there. The castle ticket at Kaleköy is not included either.
What does the day look like?
Away from Çayağzı at 10:30. Around 11:00 the boat slows in front of the Pirate Cave, and just after it we anchor in Gökkaya bay for the first swim — about forty minutes. Then a slow pass along the Sunken City on Kekova Island, forty-five minutes at Akvaryum, lunch served on board, and about an hour ashore at Kaleköy. On the way home two more swims of forty minutes each, with fruit at the first. Back alongside at 17:30.
Can you swim at the Sunken City?
No — swimming above the Sunken City is prohibited to protect the site, and boats may only pass slowly. It is the one stop on the day you watch rather than swim. There are four swimming stops either side of it.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, a towel, sun cream, a hat and sunglasses. A snorkel set and an action camera are worth packing if you have them. In spring and autumn bring a light jacket or a long-sleeved top for the evening.
Is there an age limit?
No, the day suits every age. Children under 5 travel free, 5- to 7-year-olds pay half, and from 8 it is the full price. Small children need a parent watching them, and there are floats and rings on board as well as life jackets.
What language is the tour guided in?
The captain guides the day himself, in Turkish, English and Russian. He has worked this coast for thirty years, and what he tells you about the Sunken City and the bays is his own rather than a script.
Can I come if I cannot swim?
Yes, and life jackets are on board for exactly this. Please know that the bays we anchor in are not shallow. Non-swimmers are welcome to get in the water wearing a life jacket, but doing so is at your own responsibility — the crew are running the boat and cannot provide one-to-one supervision in the water.
Can I bring a camera, drone or snorkel?
Yes — cameras, drones, masks and fins are all welcome, and there is plenty on this route worth filming. Bring your own gear: we do not have snorkelling sets to lend.
What safety equipment is on board?
Life jackets in adult and child sizes, and floats and rings for children. The captain has thirty years on this coast and the day is run to standard safety procedure.
What happens in bad weather?
Safety comes first. The captain may change the route, and if conditions make sailing unwise we will offer you another date.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel. We are flexible when the weather is the reason.
Can I bring my own food and drink?
Lunch is already included and cooked on board, so there is no need to bring food. Drinks are sold at the Queen Bar — beer, spirits, soft drinks and something to pick at — and the bar takes cards.
Is there a toilet on board?
Yes, there is a toilet below deck, along with a cabin and a washbasin.
Is there an entrance fee at Simena Castle?
Yes, the castle at Kaleköy charges admission (or use a Museum Card). You are free to skip it and spend your hour ashore in the village instead.
How do I book?
Message or call +90 533 958 06 68 — WhatsApp is fastest. Tell us the date, the tour and how many of you there are, and we will confirm.
How do I pay?
The tour itself is paid in cash on board. The bar takes cards, so drinks can go on a card even if the fare does not.
How many people are on board?
Queen C carries up to 50 guests. This is a shared day tour, so you will be sailing with other people rather than having the boat to yourselves.
